This is a combination of using arty cakes, and different kinds of brushstrokes. I think most practice should be just brushstrokes until they're perfect, but for the sake of putting up a picture this was a happy accident. Actually, the more I look at it, the more it grows on me. It would be much easier to paint this on a model. Less switching hands!
